Jim Borth
Consultant
Awarded to the individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the periodical publishing field. Jim Borth has more than 30 years experience in publishing and circulation. Mr. Borth began his career in Circulation with stints at CBS/Fawcett Magazines (now Hachette) and later, US News & World Report. Later, he became the Group Circulation Director for Cahners Publishing where he was responsible for the development of circulation for 22 magazines including American Baby, Variety, Sail, Publishers Weekly and Modern Bride. In 1985, he began a 6 year tenure as VP of Client Relations at Curtis Circulation, the largest U.S. distributor of periodicals. He then spent seven years as Circulation Director of Dennis Publishing, publishers of Maxim, Stuff, Blender and The Week. As one of the founding executives, he was responsible for the circulation and manufacturing strategies to launch and develop all four magazines, as well as the driving force behind revolutionizing the sale of subscriptions online through Dennis’ successful magazine Web sites. He left Dennis Publishing to become the GM of Sporting News magazine where he was responsible for the day-to-day management of the magazine and related assets. In this role, he was instrumental in the eventual sale of the property to American City Business Journals, Inc. Currently, Jim is working as a consultant to Palm Coast Data, providing a New York presence to assist with fulfilling client needs, and acting as a “bridge” between circulation and fulfillment. He is also actively involved in providing circulation education and training to the PCD Account Management staff. Over the years, Jim has been a frequent speaker at a variety of industry functions, has served on the ABC Magazine Advisory Board and MPA’s Marketing Committee, as well as maintaining an active membership role in the FMA. He has worked as an adjunct professor at the NYU MS Publishing program, sharing his knowledge and experience with the circulation professionals of our future. Jim holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of Connecticut.
